FAQS


The following information comes from the Negotiated Agreement between the Board of Education of Cecil County and The Cecil County Classroom Teachers Association effective July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2022.

ARTICLE VI: TEACHING CONDITIONS

Do I have to work with students during my lunch?

6.2
“When compatible with the school’s schedule, a thirty (30) minute duty-free lunch shall be provided; but in no even shall the lunch period be less than twenty-five (25) minutes.”

How many faculty meetings am I required to attend?

“There shall be no more than two (2) faculty meetings per month per school, which may extend beyond the regular duty day, except that additional meetings may be called in emergencies…”

When do I report to school when there is a two hour delay?

“Teachers are to report to work as soon as possible given road conditions within the two hour window.”

When does my duty day conclude on an inclement weather early dismissal?

“When schools are closed early for inclement weather, unit members shall remain until the end of the duty day unless otherwise indicated by the Superintendent.”

What is the requirement for lesson plans?

Evidence of long-range planning must be made available upon request.

Written daily lesson plans shall be made available in the school.

“By the opening of school each morning lesson plans shall be available for the previous day’s lessons, the current day’s lessons and the next day’s lessons.”

“Plans shall specify the daily outcomes developed from indicators and/or objectives found in the CCPS approved curriculum.”

Is there a dress code for teachers?

“All employees shall:
• Reflect and model standards that will encourage student understanding and compliance with the student dress code.
• Dress appropriately according to position and work setting, or environment.
• Present a clean, modest and professional image.
• Avoid clothing or accessories that distract or disrupt the educational process and/or administrative setting.”

ARTICE VII: TEACHER EVALUATION

What days can I be observed?

7.1.1
Teachers may be formally observed on any day except the first day of school for students, the day before Thanksgiving, the day before the beginning of the winter holidays, the day after the winter holidays, the day before the beginning of the spring holiday and the last day of school for students.

ARTICLE VII: PLANNING TIME

How much planning time are secondary teachers guaranteed?

8.1.1.1
Full time secondary teachers shall be provided with five (5) planning periods per week of not less than forty-five (45) consecutive minutes in length each student day.

How much planning time are elementary teacher guaranteed?

8.1.2.1
Full time elementary teachers shall have a minimum of three hundred fifteen (315) minutes planning time per week. This shall include forty five (45) consecutive minutes in length during the student day and three (3) thirty minute planning periods during the duty day. A teacher can be expected to participate in IEP meetings for students within their classroom during their individual planning time up to five (5) times during the school year.

ARTICLE XVI: FAMILY BEREAVEMENT

How many days of bereavement do I have the right to take?

16.1.1
“Up to five (5) work days are allowed following each death in the employee’s immediate family. Immediate family is defined as the employee’s spouse, child, step-child, parent, step-parent, parent-in-law, brother, sister, step-brother, step-sister, grandparent, grandchild, step-grand-parent, step-grandchild or any person who has lived regularly in the household of the employee.”

“Up to two (2) workdays are allowed following the death of an uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law or grandparent-in-law.”
